O’Keeffe’s Music, Pink and Blue, No. 1, a gift of former trustee Barney A. Ebsworth. One of O’Keeffe’s early triumphs,
Music, Pink and Blue, No. 1 is the first complete expression of her personal brand of modernism and the culmination of her journey from student to teacher to independent artist. The exhibition will bring SAM’s masterpiece together with loans from major museums including the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and the Whitney Museum of American Art, and will comprise a tightly focused selection of O’Keeffe’s early drawings, paintings from the 1920s and 1930s, and photographs of the artist by Alfred Stieglitz.
